People often ask: Where is Jerangle?

Well we are about 90ks from Queanbeyan in a straight line south east and about 67k's from Cooma along the road.  Below are some Google images that you may like to look at to see where we are in relation to other local spots on the Monaro.

JPS up close.

JPS along the Jerangle Road, Captains Flat is  43Ks heading south east.  It hooks north just up the road. Bredbo is 30ks along the road SW.

This is where our school is in relation to lots of others on the Monaro and near Queanbeyan.

The School

Jerangle Public School has been around for well over a century, making it one of the oldest school on the Monaro.  Students at Jerangle PS in 2005 are heaps different from those who studied here in the past.  Most children at the school have come from families that have been in the area farming for many generations.

The old shop and Post Office

The old shop closing in 1962

One of Jerangle's most well known residents, Mrs Mona Rowe was the last owner/operator of the Jerangle Post office.  It closed in 1984.

The shops haven't been touched much since closing over 40 years ago!

The pub

Left: now... Right: a while ago

There is a wombat who lives in the pub these days, that's about all!

Churches

Both St Pat's and St Andrew's still hold church services regularly.

Other cool things to see

Above left: The CWA hall, which used to be the police station and jail.  Above right:  The tennis courts, rained out for the first time in many years!  The surface is astro-turf  and the old fence you see here was replaced late in 2005.

A rarity in the bush... we hope this phone is maintained once Telstra is sold off for good.
